I picked up this book based on a recommendation from a colleague. I was looking for tools for managing multiple projects. What I found was so much more. I have read and re-read this book several times -- each time new insights emerge! This book has become my go-to resource for planning.The book outlines an approach that includes deep thinking and an actionable framework for achieving goals. Oftentimes, projects go off the rails because not enough time is spent upfront thinking through, what the author Terry Schmidt calls, the Four Critical Strategic Questions:1. What are we trying to accomplish?2. How do we measure success?3. What other conditions must exist?4. How do we get there?The author's ability to link these four questions (the building blocks for well designed strategic projects) with an immensely practical framework for putting these ideas into action is really what distinguishes this book from others. The nugget here is the LogFrame (or Logical Framework) "an elegant, concise framework with which one can build the simplest to the most complex projects from start to finish, providing a path through the jungle of complications and changing conditions." The framework provides the right mix of structure and flexibility for designing and managing initiatives in a rapidly changing context.By connecting a process for gaining clarity of purpose and a path for action, Schmidt has provided readers with a simple, yet powerful approach to tackling all kinds of projects, strategic initiatives, and endeavors. I was looking for a project management methodology that would be easy and accessible for all members of our organization. Strategic Project Management Made Simple is exactly what we were looking for. The approach is clear and simple with tools that are powerful to help you plan well from the beginning regardless of your project management experience. I wish I had come across Terry Schmidt and this process sooner and it would have saved us countless hours trying to implement far more complicated and quite frankly less effective project mangement processes.We are using this resource to build our project management office (PMO) and lay a solid foundation we can build from into the future. I can't recommend this resource more highly for anyone interested in building sound, strategic projects individually or for their organizations.

The most practical and workable plan I have found. There is a wasteland of strategic management theory books on the market. I have read many of them. This resource gave me enough knowledge and theory behind the process - - but delivered mostly by providing me an understandable and executable process he calls the Logical Framework:. Inputs - Outcomes - Purpose - Goal- - - designed around Four Critical Strategic Questions.It is logical and it works to take your goals and break them down into logical steps to accomplish results in 200 down to earth and practical pages.I am the Lead Pastor of a medium sized church. This has been the missing piece for us - to take targeted dream goals and provide a step by step process to accomplish them.

Strategic Project Management Made Simple is not only packed with information and wisdom, it contains what you need to put what you learn into practice in practical ways. The author accomplishes this using plain English - the reader understands and can apply what is learned immediately without having to wade through Project Management lingo or technical language.The information presented is applicable for any project - from a problem of national importance to sorting out the challenges of family living. Each chapter presents a concept, explains how it relates to the big picture and continues with steps to follow, tips for success, tips on what to avoid (invaluable!), examples of the concept in action, and a review of the key points. The closing chapter is "Applying These Ideas in Your World," an element many authors fail to include. Throughout the book and continued in a 31 page Appendix are charts, illustrations, tools, and resources that can be used to put what you learn into action and achieve successful results.By using Strategic Project Management Made Simple, it is like having the author walking through your project with you. The most appealing thing about Terry's book and his approach is how universally applicable they are. For me, the term "Project Management" conjures up pages upon pages of Gantt charts that describe nothing really going on, tiresome meetings, and all the other unproductive trappings of poorly run business projects. While this book could help turn even those types of projects around, the approach laid out in this book really can be applied to just about anything - from something as simple as, for instance, building a bird house; to something as complex as changing the social, economic, and political underpinnings of an entire country (one of the examples given in the book of a successful application of this strategy!) Reading this book really brought the concept of managing a project down to earth for me - exactly where I needed it to be. Terry doesn't gloss over the difficult and the complex - he just shows you how to break it down and understand it in a way that will chart a successful course of action. I'll be re-reading this book, and referring back to it in the future as I attempt to become more strategic in my own undertakings - business related or not!

When I entered into this filed as a Project Scheduler a good friend said if it looks easy it ain't.Well, true enough. Ten years later and growing in this field this book lays out a organized plan that rounds out a Project for success.It leads one to ask questions that on my first reading I was thinking: "Shouldn't the Senior Management Team be asking these questions?"So far I am enjoying learning these new skill sets for my spring project.
