This book was a #freeebook promotion I received for my honest unbiased opinion. but would have paid for it in a heartbeat. This book is straight forward, well written and easy to follow for anyone. This will help those with emotional issues and attachments to inanimate objects, allow you to see past the mounds of accumulation and into the soul of your issues.I am a control freak, no secret to my family although they are not. I need to see clean counters as does my son in law, but there are four adults living here with very different cleaning styles. I hate clutter, always have probably always will. I grew up in a home where everything had a place and it shall not be moved from that space, minimalist, and orderly. After leaving my home a few years ago for nearly two years and only home for a weekend visit I was unable to contain the clutter that gathered while away. Then my mother passed and finding the time to do it just fell away and frankly I did not care until recently with more life changes.I needed a boost but was not sure where that was going to come from. I stood in the middle of my kitchen and attempted this alone. Every time I threw something away there was a battle. I moved the microwave and another battle ensued. Then I had seen this book Control Your Clutter! there had to be an answer in here, and there was. That is why you are getting this review today. I spent yesterday doing the kitchen and I feel exhilarated. You see, yesterday was trash day, and no taking back what I threw away. I have storage space in my basement on shelves which other things felt quite at home sitting on. The only thing I did different were the containers, personally, I love Rubbermaid products and bought those instead. This is, needless to say, a life changing book, remember not to overwhelm yourself one room a day, or one room at a time. When you are done the weight feels lifted. I am lucky there are only two rooms I have trouble with and the kitchen is done, next is my room which appears to have become a catch-all in my eyes although you can always see my floors as well as always a place to sit there is clutter I see others may not. This is not a long book however it is full of substance. Theresa Smith has outdone herself with this self-help bookControl Your Clutter!: You don't have to get rid of EVERYTHING! Even hoarders will succeed with this method!
First Impression:This book is mean to give you a few methods on gaining control of the clutter in your house. It claims that even if you are a hoarder, you will find the information in this book helpful. It also explains how gaining control over your belongings will help you live a stress-free life. I totally agree with this comment because I noticed that once my room is clean and neat, I feel confident and I am more energized to do more. I am looking forward to reading this book.Overall Assessment:The system starts by defining guiding terms ("Need" & "Want") to help you sort your belongings. The author does a nice job at getting to the point and addressing many of the concerns or questions that you might have about the process. Such as, What do I do if the item has sentimental value? or How do I store the items I would like to keep but don't use regularly?I know that one of my struggles to get rid of some of the items I own is considering my investment on them. The author suggest you to change your mindset and rather than focusing on the initial investment to consider its productivity. After setting up a few guidelines and recommendations, each chapter is divided into sections of the house. Each section contains advice to help you sort and organize the items in the room. I like this approach. The book offers short and to the point guidelines and it is written in a very friendly manner. It is really easy to read and it cover the basic areas. I am going to put into practice many of the recommendations. I have been meaning to clean my house but I did not know where to begin. Some of the information is not new to me. Some of the information in this book you can find in a blog, or youtube video. But it is nice to have a summary and information in one place.FTC - I received a discount for this product in exchanged for my honest and unbiased review. All opinions are my own.
This short read is surprisingly clear cut and precise solution to most of our every day clutter problems. Starting in one room, she systematically brings us across the entire house. There are tips for each room, as well as a step-by-step, easy to follow, repeatable plan to deal with clutter right now. While I was reading this short book (it's only around 50 pages!) several ideas sparked in my head about new homes I can create for some things I want to keep, but don't have room for, but want to keep. She never says "throw everything away" or "get rid of your clutter", she provides a great plan to follow so YOU decide what is right for YOUR home. All you need is a few boxes, and maybe an afternoon to dedicate to each room. If you follow her plan, and ask yourself the few questions she provides for all the items you sift through, you'll see results. Not only does she provide how to clear that clutter, and go through everything, she also provides you with several options of ways to keep the clutter cleared in the future.Great, quick read. Definitely pick this one up!
The information in this book is common sense for those who understand they have a problem. Unfortunately, people who have a hording problem do not have common sense in this area. I got this book hoping to find some ideas that would help me help a friend whose house is becoming a real problem. She has not reached the point where she wants to get rid of the clutter yet, so the approaches in this book is not something that helped me to get her started thinking about DE-cluttering.Tips like put a sheet of plastic on top of the refrigerator so you don't have to clean it felt very unappealing to me. Another typical example, store measuring cups under the sink is another typical advice - too specific and may not work for everyone. The advice just did not hit the right notes most of the time.Ali Julia review
